Football Round Robin: What you need to know
Football uses round robin scheduling at every level — from grassroots Sunday leagues to the Premier League and Champions League group stage. The format ensures every club plays every other club the same number of times, producing the most accurate standing after a full campaign.
For a group-stage format (used in the World Cup, Euros, and Champions League), divide teams into small groups of 3–4 and run a single round robin within each group. The top finishers from each group then advance to a knockout bracket.
