Why organizers pick 6 teams

School intramurals, company sports days, and club friendlies often land on six entries — two more than a minimal 4-team draw, but far less scheduling pain than 8 or 10 teams.

With two courts or fields you can finish 15 games in five time blocks. With one venue, plan a full day with short turnovers between matches.

Sample round structure

Round 1: three pairings among six teams. Round 2: rotate opponents using the standard cyclic method so no team repeats an opponent. By round 5 every team has played every other team exactly once.

Single vs double for 6 teams

Single round robin: 15 games. Double round robin (home and away): 30 games across 10 rounds — realistic only for multi-week leagues, not one-day cups. Most 6-team events stay single.

FAQ

How long does a 6-team round robin take?

Depends on match length. Three 40-minute football halves on one pitch need roughly 5–6 hours with breaks. Two pitches cut that in half.

What if only 5 teams show up?

Regenerate for 5 teams — 10 games, 5 rounds, one bye per round. Do not leave a ghost sixth slot.

Can I add a final after the round robin?

Yes — top two from the table play a final. Announce this before play so teams know first place might be decided by a playoff.
